The Professional Referees Organization announced last week that Ismail Elfath will be the head referee for the 2015 AT&T MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. (9 pm ET; FOX Sports 1, UniMás in the US; TSN and RDS in Canada).
The MLS All-Stars will face English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur, who announced their roster for Wednesday’s match on Monday morning.
Elfath, 33, served as the fourth official in last year’s All-Star Game, at times a heated encounter that saw Bayern Munich manager refuse to shake Caleb Porter’s hand after the All-Stars beat the German champions 2-1 in Portland. Wednesday’s match will be Elfath’s first time as head referee at the All-Star Game.
“There are two big assignments in every season that referees aspire to get to – the All-Star Game and the MLS Cup,” Elfath told PROreferees.com.
“It’s a privilege and an honor to be in charge of the All-Star Game as a referee, and it will be an absolute pleasure to referee Tottenham, which is such an historic club.”
Elfath has refereed 12 MLS games in 2015, tied for second-most with Allen Chapman, Jose Carlos Rivero and Ted Unkel. He’ll be joined in Colorado on Wednesday by assistant referees Jeff Muschik and Brian Dunn, fourth official Sorin Stoica and fifth official Michael Rottersman.
