Kris Boyd's having a pretty good start to his MLS career.
In his first game for the Portland Timbers, he got his first win on American soil courtesy of his first league goal. And as if the deal needed any more sweetening, the Scottish hitman has now one the 2012 season's first AT&T Goal of the Week honors.
After a wild sequence that saw the Philadelphia Union open the scoring and relinquish their lead within three minutes, MLS Player of the Week Kalif Alhassan collected the ball in the corner and served a pinpoint cross into Boyd, who nodded across the face of Zac MacMath's goal and inside the far post to put the home team in front 2-1.
Though Alhassan added a third in the 76th minute, Boyd's goal proved the difference as the Rose City opened their season with a 3-1 win.
Boyd's header won with 41 percent of the vote, handily beating out Quincy Amarikwa's 27 percent for his firecracker in the Colorado Rapids' 2-0 win over the Columbus Crew.
