Canada name March squad, need a win to qualify for Gold Cup

Needing a win in their final Concacaf Nations League Qualifying match to qualify for the Concacaf Gold Cup and 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League Group A, Canada men's national team head coach John Herdman has called an exciting squad.

Headlined by Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies, the attacking options are deep and talented. The squad also features a number of MLSers, with the Vancouver Whitecaps leading the way with four players selected -- goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau, defenders Derek Cornelius and Doneil Henry as well as midfielder Russell Teibert.

The Montreal Impact are represented by defender Zachary Brault-Guillard and midfielder Samuel Piette while Toronto FC's Jonathan Osorio, Orlando City SC's Will Johnson and LAFC's Mark-Anthony Kaye have been called into the squad as well. 

“Every game you play at home is special, but this game has the little something extra as the result could really shape the destiny for Canada,” Herdman said in a statement. “For the people of British Columbia, they’ve been amazing at being there for Canada when we’ve needed them most and we need them out again on March 24th to help this team make history by qualifying for Concacaf Nations League Group A."

Canada face French Guiana on March 24 at BC Place in Vancouver having won all three of their previous qualifying matches with 14 goals scored and none conceded. French Guinea have won two of their three matches, also needing a win to push for Gold Cup qualification.
