TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
Charlotte FC have signed free-agent goalkeeper Adrián Zendejas through the 2023 MLS season with an option for 2024, the expansion club announced Sunday.
Zendejas joins a goalkeeping corps that includes Kristijan Kahlina (transfer from Bulgaria’s Ludogorets Razgrad) and Pablo Sisniega (trade with LAFC). They also selected George Marks (Clemson University) in the third round of the 2022 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas.
“We’re excited to welcome Adrián to Charlotte FC to complete our goalkeeping group for 2022. He’s gained good experience playing in the USL Championship and has proven he can step in when called upon in MLS play,” sporting director Zoran Krneta said in a release.
“We wanted to provide goalkeeper coach Andy Quy with a strong, well-rounded group of four goalkeepers and this signing, along with the drafting of George Marks, will help provide that healthy competition as we start preseason this week.”
The 26-year-old has one MLS appearance with Sporting Kansas City from the 2019 season, plus has spent time with Nashville SC and Minnesota United FC.
The bulk of his experience has come in the USL Championship with El Paso Locomotive FC and Swope Park Rangers (now MLS NEXT Pro side Sporting KC II).
