TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Re-signed
The Chicago Fire have signed Diego Campos to a new contract, the club announced Friday.
The 23-year-old Costa Rican attacker is under contract for 2019 with club options for 2020, 2021 and 2022.
"When we drafted Diego and signed him to a reserve contract, we promised him that we would improve that original deal if he outperformed in his first professional season," Chicago Fire president and general manager Nelson Rodriguez said in a statement. "Happily, he demonstrated the character and ability that we projected of him. I'm pleased for Diego, as he has fully earned this improved contract.”
Campos, who was selected 38th overall in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft, had one goal and two assists in 23 appearances, including 13 starts, in his rookie season. His 17 chances created ranked as the fourth-most overall on the Fire.
"I'm very grateful to the club for believing in me and offering me this new contract," Campos said. "I'm eager to get back to work and begin helping the team achieve our goals in 2019.”
