TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Waived
FC Cincinnati have waived defender Matt Miazga and utilized a buyout of a guaranteed contract, the club announced Monday evening.Â
The 31-year-old center back will no longer occupy a spot on FCC’s roster or count against their 2026 salary budget, retroactive to Sept. 2.
Miazga joined Cincinnati in August 2022 from English Premier League side Chelsea FC and helped usher in a new era for the club. He made 108 appearances for Cincinnati and earned MLS Defender of the Year, Best XI and All-Star honors in 2023.
The Red Bull New York homegrown product suffered a significant knee injury in a June 2024 match at the San Jose Earthquakes and returned to game action less than 10 months later.
"Everyone at the club is tremendously grateful for all that Matt did for FC Cincinnati," said general manager Chris Albright. "Matt brought to Cincinnati a winning mentality that helped turn around the trajectory of this team. He was a foundational piece in the growth of our club, and we wish him and his family the best."
Internationally, Miazga has earned 28 caps with the United States. He helped win the 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup and 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League.
While at Chelsea, Miazga’s featured primarily on loan to Vitesse (Netherlands), Anderlecht (Belgium), Alavés (Spain), Nantes (France) and more. He turned pro with the Red Bulls in 2013.
