The Houston Dynamo have enlisted a little help from some local icons to get their fans hyped up for this weekend's Texas Derby.
As the Orange prepare to face cross-state rivals FC Dallas on Saturday (8:30 pm ET, MLS LIVE), a few H-town celebrities have offered some words of encouragement, ranging from former Rockets star Hakeem Olajuwon to hip-hop legend Bun B and many more.
As Houston-area sports radio personality Seth Payne put it, "Remind Dallas they're a bunch of frauds, phonies, posers, any other insults from the 1980s that you want to use, that's what they are. Go get the cannon back!"
US women's national team star Carli Lloyd, who plays her club soccer for the Houston Dash, simply offered up this: "Kick Dallas' butt."
There surely isn't any love lost between these rivals from Texas' two largest cities. The Dynamo will be looking to bring "El Capitan" back to BBVA Compass Stadium for the first time since 2012. El Capitan is perhaps the most unique piece of hardware in MLS -- it's a fully functional cannon that the Texas Derby winner can fire and keep on display all season long.
