There are worse times to get your first goal of the season. And less spectacular ways to do so.
In his first appearance since May 5, Patrick Ianni's stunning side-footed volley against Sporting Kansas City last Wednesday earned the Seattle Sounders a draw and their third AT&T Goal of the Week honor this season behind a whopping 44 percent of the vote.
After an eighth-minute goal from Jacob Peterson put Sporting up 1-0 at CenturyLink Field, Ianni answered back in the 15th minute by firing home Mauro Rosales' set-piece service. It was the center back's first goal since May 28 of last season.
Ianni's goal garnered twice as many votes as Chicago Fire star Marco Pappa's early long range strike against the Columbus Crew.
