It's official: Inter Miami CF have signed the first two players in club history. The club on Friday announced the acquisition of two young Argentines: left winger Matias Pellegrini and forward Julian Carranza, both of whom were linked to the 2020 expansion side earlier this summer.
Pellegrini, 19, joins Miami on a transfer from Estudiantes de La Plata as a Young Designated Player and will remain on loan with the Superliga Argentina outfit through January 2020.
Carranza, also 19, joins via transfer from Banfield and will also remain on loan at that club until January 2020.
"It’s important for us that we found young, exciting attacking players that are on the upside of their career and have the potential to be really good players in this league,” said Inter Miami sporting director Paul McDonough in a team release. “We will continue to build and add quality players that are the right fit for our Club. We started with youth, but we know it’s also important to have veteran players who come from both overseas and within the league to balance out the roster over time.”
Pellegrini joined the Estudiantes academy at the age of 11 before making his first-team debut in 2018, where he has scored three goals across 15 matches in addition to making two Copa Libertadores appearances. He has represented Argentina at both the U-17 and U-20 levels on the international stage.

Carranza, who moved to Buenos Aires at 13 to join Banfield’s academy, is in his second season with the first team, where he has scored 10 goals across 30 matches. He has trained with the Argentina U-17 national team and made an appearance in the 2017 South American U-17 Championship.
“Both Julian and Matías showed us they really wanted to take the next step of their career with Inter Miami CF. We liked that Pellegrini can play inside and out wide, has very good aerobic capacity and can cover a lot of ground, while Julian is a very grounded player with an impressive work rate. He’s the player that strives to score goals and is very good in the box,” added McDonough.
