TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The LA Galaxy have signed midfielder Sergi Roberto as a free agent, the club announced Saturday. The former Spain international is under contract through June 2028 with an option for the 2028-2029 season.
Roberto enjoyed an 18-year career with Spanish powerhouse FC Barcelona, before spending the last two seasons with Italian Serie A side Como 1907.
Roberto tallied 19g/43a in 373 appearances with Barça and helped them win 25 trophies, including seven LaLiga titles and two UEFA Champions League crowns.
While at Como, Roberto produced 1g/1a in 37 games and helped the Italian club earn their first-ever UEFA Champions League qualification.
Internationally, Roberto has scored once in 11 games with Spain.
"Sergi brings a combination of leadership, technical quality, tactical intelligence, and championship experience that few players have," said Will Kuntz, LA's general manager.
"He has been a key member of some of the greatest teams of his generation and understands not only what it takes to win, but what it means to be a winning team. Sergi’s character, positional versatility, and leadership will be invaluable, and we are excited to welcome him and his family to the LA Galaxy."
Roberto is LA's third signing this summer, following Japanese striker Kyōgo Furuhashi and Mexican winger Hirving Lozano.
At the Leagues Cup pause, LA are outside the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs field. They're 12th in the Western Conference (22 points), two points behind Seattle Sounders FC for the ninth and final postseason spot.
