TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
With the World Cup break here in MLS, the LA Galaxy are staying busy with roster moves.
The team announced on Thursday the signing of veteran defender Sheanon Williams. Joining as a free agent, Williams will be available for selection on Friday for LA's U.S. Open Cup match against the Portland Timbers.
In addition, the Galaxy announced defender Emrah Klimenta has been released.
“Sheanon is a player that adds valuable MLS experience to our backline at a position of need,” said LA Galaxy head coach Sigi Schmid in a team statement. “We believe he will bolster our right back position and we are excited to add him to our roster. We thank Emrah for his contributions and wish him the best of luck.”
Williams, 28, returns to MLS for his ninth season. Starting out with the Philadelphia Union in 2010, the Massachusetts native played in Philly until 2015, when he was traded to the Houston Dynamo. Following the 2016 season, Williams was traded to Vancouver Whitecaps FC. In all, he has made 192 MLS regular season appearances, scoring seven goals and 25 assists, and he has also played in two MLS Cup Playoffs games in his career to date.
