Medina signing part of NYCFC plan to get younger, hungrier, says Reyna

New York City FC carried the oldest roster in Major League Soccer when they made their expansion debut in 2015. But the club is pursuing a markedly different approach as their fourth year unfolds.

The likes of Andrea Pirlo and Frank Lampard have moved on, replaced by fresh-faced talents like Jack HarrisonYangel Herrera and new signing Jesus Medina, signaling a younger, livelier squad with less experience, but more to prove.

It’s no accident, as sporting director Claudio Reyna (pictured above with Medina) explained to the New York Post in a feature story about the club's "long-awaited youth movement" published on Saturday.

“We have shifted a little bit in terms of our philosophies and bringing players in,” said Reyna. “We want players who want to be here and every player we’ve brought in to the club has wanted to come to NYCFC. But players who are at the stage or profile that are very motivated, hungry, are coming into their peak or just before the peak of their careers.”
