Nashville SC stage epic rally to tie MLS points record

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No Nashville SC fan will ever forget Nov. 1, 2026.

The Coyotes staged an epic comeback to defeat Red Bull New York, 3-2, reversing a two-goal deficit to win the match in second-half stoppage time and tie the MLS single-season points record (74; Inter Miami in 2024) before celebrating their Supporters' Shield-winning campaign with fans at GEODIS Park in their regular-season home finale.

"It's amazing," captain Hany Mukhtar said of Sunday's heroics, which left Nashville needing just a tie during Saturday's Decision Day visit to FC Cincinnati to set a new league points record (4 pm ET | Apple TV).

"But now we are tied with Miami with the same points, and we have one more game."

Unbeaten at GEODIS

Nashville's comeback win finalizes their unbeaten regular season at GEODIS Park. Through 17 home matches, the Coyotes put up a new league-record 15 wins and two draws, outscoring opponents 48-14. They're now the only side in MLS to record two unbeaten seasons at home, following their 2021 record of 8W-0L-9D.

Down 2-0 inside 40 minutes and thoroughly outplayed by a Red Bull side needing a win to stay alive in the Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs race, it looked like Nashville's first home loss of the year would come at the most inopportune time.

Ultimately, that wasn't to be, as two RBNY own goals preceded Sam Surridge's dramatic 91st-minute winner.

"All year we talk about just being able to respond," head coach B.J. Callaghan told reporters. "Anything gets thrown at us — we think we score, VAR or whatever — it doesn't matter. We move on to the next play, and we continue to hunt for goals, and it was what we needed in this game. You gotta give all the guys credit. They just left everything out there."

Nashville's 15th home win of the year passes the Red Bulls' 2018 record of 14 wins, yet another milestone moment from the 'Yotes in a magical season.

"You have to give obviously the fans tremendous credit," said Callaghan. "It goes two-zero, and they're behind us. It's two-one, and we're still feel the energy positively going into the locker room. That's what you really hope for when you have a true connection with the club and the city and the fans."

Another trophy in the cabinet

After lifting the US Open Cup last year for the first trophy in club history, Nashville have added more silverware to their cabinet in 2026 with the Supporters' Shield.

The Coyotes haven't dropped out of first place in the MLS table since May, even in the midst of a gruelling run to the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals.

As a result, they've earned home-field advantage throughout the playoffs and MLS Cup presented by Audi, should they reach the Dec. 18 final.

"We wanna be the standard of this league. This is something very unique, and you don't often have the chance to become the standard of a whole league," said Mukhtar. "This group has shown that we can win away, and that is our mentality in Cincinnati."

MLS Cup dreams

While the Shield is a major milestone for the club in their seventh season, Nashville aren't content with just that. Knowing the road to MLS Cup runs through Nashville, the best home team in regular-season history, they've got their eyes set on more.

"We love playing here. We are proud that the MLS Cup has to come through GEODIS," said Callaghan. "We understand that it's not an easy feat. We understand we have to go to work and do it, but we're ready to compete."

Majority owner John Ingram, who guided the club into MLS in 2020, echoed the same sentiments before lifting the Shield.

"This is a journey, not a destination. This is a hell of a stop to win the Supporters' Shield, but fellas, I think you have some more work to do this season.

"Let's go get the Cup!"
