Frank Lampard is a man of many talents. One of them – in addition to manning the midfield for New York City FC – is writing, as the author of the popular children’s book series Frankie’s Magic Soccer Ball.

And he recently sat down with Scholastic, publisher of children’s books and educational materials, including Lampard’s series, to discuss his love of reading and writing. Of the more interesting tidbits, Lampard said two classics, Treasure Island and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, were the books that he loved as a kid and John Steinbeck’s seminal novel Of Mice and Men really stoked his love for reading.

“And I still love it to this day as one of my favorite books,” he said.

It’s an interesting Q-and-A for a glimpse at Lampard’s life off the soccer field, and it also features an endearing photo of his reading with his two young daughters. Lampard’s book of choice for the photo? Well, I Think Therefore I Play, of course, written by one of his new teammates.
