TRANSFER TRACKER:Trade
Nashville SC's busy day continued on Tuesday, as they have added their first defender. The expansion club announced the acquisition of LA Galaxy defender Dave Romney via trade, a move that was originally reported last week by The Athletic.
The Galaxy received $225,000 in General Allocation Money for the 26-year-old defender who can play as a center back or a left back. The Galaxy will receive an additional $50,000 in General Allocation Money if Romney meets certain performance-based metrics.
âDaveâs combination of athleticism and decision-making on both sides of the ball, coupled with being naturally left-sided, made him someone that we appreciated very early on in this process,â said Nashville SC GM Mike Jacobs in a statement. âWe believe that he is someone that could really flourish in our system with both a consistent role and a regular run of games.â
âIâm incredibly excited to be involved in Nashville SCâs inaugural MLS season,â said Romney. âItâs such a unique experience. You are at the ground floor of shaping what the clubâs legacy will be for years to come. Itâs something Iâve always been intrigued about doing and I couldnât be happier that itâs in an amazing city with such a passionate fanbase.â
Romney has made 84 league appearances across five seasons after signing with the Galaxy from their USL side, LA Galaxy II, in 2015.
âWe will look to improve our roster ahead of the 2020 MLS campaign and acquiring Allocation Money give us flexibility as we enter an important period,â said LA Galaxy GM Dennis te Kloese. âWe want to thank Dave for all of his contributions to our club. We wish him the best of luck with Nashville.â
Previously, he played collegiately at the University of San Francisco fro 2011-2014, and also had a brief run with the US U-23 national team program.
Nashville acquired Dax McCarty from the Chicago Fire earlier on Tuesday.
