UPDATE (7/7): The July 8 match between Nashville and Chicago has been postponed.
Nashville SC will look to restart its debut MLS season with a first league victory, as the expansion side take on Chicago Fire FC in Group A play.
Nashville dropped each of its first two matches of 2020, but held their own in both, falling 2-1 to Atlanta United in their season-opener at Nissan Stadium on Feb. 29 and coming out on the short end of a hard-fought 1-0 road result against the Portland Timbers on March 8. The newcomers showed plenty of defensive moxie in hanging with two of the more talented attacking teams in MLS, but fine-tuning their own attack has no doubt been a point of emphasis during the hiatus.
Chicago, meanwhile, nearly spoiled the party for the defending champion Seattle Sounders in their season-opener at CenturyLink Field on March 1 after an opening goal from new forward Robert Beric had them up 1-0 in the second half. But Seattle's Jordan Morris would strike for a brace, including a late stoppage-time game-winner, to send the Fire to a disappointing defeat. Raphael Wicky's men then drew the New England Revolution 1-1 in their next match at Gillette Stadium.
